DiskTop provides a complete file management utility in a desk accessory. DiskTop also includes DT Launch™ for launching files and documents and GOfer™ 2.0, a file searching utility that looks through multiple files for key words.
DiskTop enhances the productivity of novices and power users alike. It allows users to find, list, delete, rename, copy, move, size, launch, shut down, restart or set attributes of files on any disk without leaving the current application.
Within the DiskTop window, double-clicking will launch a document or program. ‘Delete, Copy, Rename and Move’ will work with one or more files or folders. The ‘Size’ function calculates the size of all selected files and folders. “Get Info” allows the storage of info comments that are not destroyed when rebuilding the desktop. The DiskTop menu allows for System shut down, creation of new folders, viewing and editing file information.
DiskTop’s Find window allows users to specify multiple search criteria and examine all mounted disks. It then displays a listing of all documents, folders, or applications meeting the criteria. Upon clicking the desired document, users can ‘Go To’ the location or ‘Open’ (launch) the application selected.
DT Launch allows the user to launch applications and documents from the Apple menu, a pop-up menu or a window accessible with a hot key.
GOfer, included with DiskTop, is a desk accessory that allows users to locate key words within documents. It will search multiple files and folders and users can fine tune the search by using AND, OR, NOT or NEARBY buttons. GOfer also includes a
“Copy More” feature that allows users to keep adding to the Clipboard without losing what is already there.

OVERVIEW
DISKTOP‚Ñ¢
Find, Rename, Copy, Move & More... Without Leaving Your Program.
UH-OH!
“Where is that file? I just used it five minutes ago!”
“Geez…I forgot to rename that file. I’ll have to close the program, wait for the Finder, rename the file, rerun the program and start over!”
How many times have you had that happen? We call it Finder frustration.
The solution? DiskTop.
No matter what you’re working on, DiskTop is ready and waiting to swing into action. It’s like a portable finder that really finds.
FINDER FRUSTRATION... THE BANE OF MAC USERS EVERYWHERE.
The “Find” function is amazingly powerful, yet easy to use.
Let’s say you need to find a file. All you know is… you worked on it yesterday and it was a CalendarMaker file.
That's okay. That really is all you need to know to find it fast.
DiskTop searches an entire 40 megabyte hard drive in under 15 seconds. It usually finds files in less time than that!
You’re presented with a list of the files that meets the search criteria. Clicking one of the files will graphically show where that file is located.
SEAMLESSNESS?
So you’ve found the file you were looking for… now what?
Well, you could quit this find function, go to the Finder, locate the file from the information provided to you and do what you like with it.
Or, you could click the Open button to run the file.
DiskTop automatically closes any program you might have been working with and runs the file directly, bypassing the Finder.
Or, you could click the “Go To” button to work with the file in the main DiskTop screen. The file appears selected, ready to use.
That's what seamless means:
The ability to instantly work with the file you’ve found.
THAT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING.
What else does DiskTop do? How about renaming, copying, moving or deleting a file or folder?
Again, even while you’re in the middle of something on your Macintosh.
Select DiskTop from the Apple menu (or define your own keystroke to open it). And there’s your DiskTop screen. Just look at it! Everything you need to know about every file is available at a glance. You can see the last time the file was modified. How much space it occupies on your disk. How many files are in folders. The percentage of space used and available on your drive. For those who like it a little simpler, DiskTop offers a non-technical view as well.
From this screen, you can do everything. Create a new folder and put documents in it. Rename folders and files. Delete, copy or move them. Select a folder and several files to see their combined size. It’s as easy as selecting files and clicking a button.
ORDER OUT OF CHAOS.
DiskTop will put a little order in your life. Click on a category heading: Name, type, creator, data, resource or date last modified, to organize them by that category. Suppose you wanted to look at your files based on the date they were last modified. Fine!
Just click on “Modified” and DiskTop does the rest.
But DiskTop offers even more power to you.
THE DISKTOP MENU SERVES YOU WELL.
One of the most annoying things in using a Macintosh occurs when you're done working and you quit the application, wait for the finder to come up and then… finally… shut down.
Just pop up DiskTop, select shutdown and it'll ask you if you need to save changes. That’s it! It’s quick.
Have you ever selected a file and asked to “Get Info”
(Command-I)? Have you written your own notes there? How many times have they disappeared? If you use “Get Info” from DiskTop, you won't lose them.
Most of us have a few programs and files that we use all the time. The slowdown comes when you have to go from one to the other.
Not any more!
With DT Launch, you can launch programs or documents with the click of a mouse!
It’s the best of both worlds: convenience and speed!
WHO COULD ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE? YOU COULD!
You’ve heard the phrase “But wait! There’s more!”
Well, there is!
Included with DiskTop‚Ñ¢ 4.0 is GOfer‚Ñ¢ 2.0
GOFER:
A Desk Accessory that lets you find key words in any text file quickly, logically and easily.
THE WRAP-UP:
If you have a hard drive or a network, DiskTop isn’t just handy… it’s a must. DiskTop even lets you change its look and functionality depending upon your sophistication as a user. Day after day you’ll find yourself using DiskTop to move, rename, delete, copy and more, right in the middle of whatever you’re doing. The “Find” function alone is worth the price of admission and it outperforms many stand-alone programs of that type. DiskTop gives you all that and more. What are you waiting for?
If you don’t have DiskTop you’re probably waiting for everything!
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Macintosh 512E, Plus, SE, II and IIx.
